Bill Maher Criticizes Kamala Harris for Avoiding the Press: ‘More Insulting Than What Trump Does’

Bill Maher suggested that Kamala Harris’s decision to avoid the press is “more insulting” than Donald Trump’s constant attacks on news organizations. Despite being endorsed by President Joe Biden over a month ago, the Vice President has yet to hold news conferences or grant interviews.

“What do you think about Kamala’s lack of engagement with the press?” Maher asked CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. “In some ways, I find it more insulting than what Trump does. Trump calls the media ‘the enemy of the people,’ which is bad enough. But what she’s essentially saying is, ‘I don’t need you. I’m not going to talk to you. You’re irrelevant to me.’ To me, that’s even worse than saying, ‘I hate you.’ It’s like saying, ‘I don’t even think about you,’” Maher argued.

Collins responded, “I’m not sure it’s worse than Trump’s daily denigration of the press. As a White House correspondent, I often witnessed him trying to pick personal fights or outright lie in response to questions. I wouldn’t necessarily compare the two.”

Collins added, “I do believe she should engage with the press. Anyone with access to the nuclear codes should be willing to answer questions. And we’d love to have her on the show.”

“I’d love that too,” Maher replied, “but I’m not holding my breath.”

In contrast, Trump has regularly engaged with the press through news conferences and interviews. Earlier this month, Harris stated that she planned to schedule an interview before the end of August.
