Gus Walz’s emotional moment during dad Tim Walz’s speech at DNC wins hearts

In what was the most significant speech of his career, Tim Walz reflected on his early days in Congress, stating, “It was my students who first inspired me to run for Congress. They saw in me what I hoped to instill in them—a dedication to the common good and an understanding that we’re all in this together.” The 60-year-old went on to share, “I represented my neighbors in Congress for 12 years, and I learned a great deal. I learned how to work across the aisle on issues like strengthening rural economies and supporting our veterans. I also learned how to compromise without compromising my values.”

While he outlined his political vision, the Minnesota Governor also shared a deeply personal moment with the audience. Tim opened up about the fertility challenges he and his wife, Gwen Walz, faced. He revealed that after seven years of treatments, they were finally blessed with their daughter, Hope.

Tim Walz recounted the emotional journey he and his wife Gwen faced in their struggle to have children, saying, “I remember praying every night for a call with good news, the knot in my stomach when the phone rang, and the heartache when we were told the treatments hadn’t worked. It took us years,” he shared. “But we had access to fertility treatments, and when our daughter was finally born, we named her Hope.”

As Tim expressed his love for his family, saying, “Hope, Gus, Gwen—you are my whole world. I love you all so much,” the camera captured a touching moment. An emotional Gus, overcome with pride and joy, was seen shouting, “That’s my dad! That’s my dad!” while tearing up. The heartwarming exchange between the VP candidate and his son touched everyone in attendance on Day 3 of the DNC.
